Terms
The ground rules, in plain English. By sending me a bill you're agreeing to these, along with how the fee works.
1. Who I am
Devon Rodrigues, a sole trader trading as betterwithbills, ABN 39 822 428 273, based in Perth, WA. I work for you, not for any provider. I'm not a retailer, I don't sell electricity, gas, internet or mobile plans, and I'm not an agent for anyone who does.
2. What I do
I compare your electricity, gas, internet and mobile bills against the plans on the market, tell you what I find, and show you how to switch if you want to. If you sign up for the year, I keep watching your bills and tell you when there's a better deal.
What I give you is general information about plans and prices. It isn't financial, legal or tax advice.
3. What you do
You decide whether to switch, and you make the switch yourself with the new provider. Your contract is with that provider, on their terms, not mine.
Before you sign up, read the provider's fact sheet: the Basic Plan Information Document for electricity and gas, or the Critical Information Summary for internet and mobile. And tell me before you switch, so I can make sure the timing is right and every discount is applied.
4. Prices, estimates and changes
I work from the bill you send and the prices providers publish on the day I check. Any saving I show you is an estimate based on your past usage. What you actually save depends on how much you use.
Providers can change prices, promotions and who they accept at any time. I can't promise a deal will still be there, or that a provider will accept you (some run credit checks, and some plans aren't available at every address). If a number is a guess, for example a speed your bill doesn't show, I'll say so.
5. Tools I use
I use software and an AI assistant to help read bills and check plans. I check every result myself before it reaches you. How your details are protected is on the privacy page.
6. The fee
Checking your bill is free. You only pay if I find you a saving: $99 for the year, paid by card before I send the details. If the deal turns out not to be available to you, you get the full fee back. The details are on how the fee works.
6a. Renewing and cancelling
You pay by card through Stripe, my payment provider. The yearly service renews automatically on that card, so your bills stay watched. Before it renews, you'll get an email with the date and the price.
Don't want to keep going? Cancel any time with the "Manage subscription" link in any payment email. It's instant, you don't need to contact me, and you won't be charged again. If I ever change the price, I'll tell you at least 30 days before your renewal.
Paid by PayID instead of card? Then nothing renews automatically. I'll message you before your year is up and you decide.
When your year ends without renewing, I stop watching your bills and delete your record.
7. Things outside my control
I'm not responsible for what providers do: their outages, billing mistakes, coverage, connection delays, meter changes, or changes to their plans. If something goes wrong with a provider, I'll help you sort it out.
8. Your rights
My services come with guarantees that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, including that they'll be provided with due care and skill. Nothing in these terms takes away those rights. If I get something wrong, tell me and I'll put it right or refund your fee.
9. Complaints
About me: text 0437 014 408 or email devon@betterwithbills.com.au. I'll reply within 24 hours and aim to fix it within 10 business days. If you're still not happy, you can contact Consumer Protection WA or the fair trading office in your state.
About a provider: contact them first. If that doesn't fix it, you can go to the energy and water ombudsman in your state, or the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman for internet and mobile. Both are free, and I can point you to the right one.
10. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms. The date below shows the latest version. If you're on the yearly service, the terms you signed up under apply for that year.
11. The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of Western Australia. Your rights under the consumer laws where you live still apply.
